Princesses & Monsters: Painting and Sculpture by Anyuta Gusakova

January 17- March 30, 2019

In fairytale the princess looms large as a figure with the soul of an adventurer. Her external circumstances, however, dictate that she dwells in a state of captivity.  Freedom for her can only be attained through masculine intervention, culminating in a marriage that seals her salvation. This exhibition looks at the princess as both a figure of history and fantasy.  Inspired by the Italian traditions of court portraiture, legends, fairytales, and even surrealism, the artist Anyuta Gusakova explores the compelling figure of the princess, which continues to endure in the land of everafter defying the influences of feminism.
