Cory Weeds Quartet plays Jackie McLean
Featuring Sharon Minemoto keys, Russ Botten bass, Joe Poole drums & Cory Weeds alto sax
Alto saxophonist Jackie McLean was born in New York City on May 17, 1931. Growing up surrounded by jazz, he gained notice for his skills as a saxophone player. McLean performed with such jazz greats as Charlie Parker and Miles Davis, and released his own albums in the 1950s and ’60s. He later taught and mentored a new generation of jazz artists before his death on March 31, 2006, in Hartford, Connecticut.
McLean enjoyed a prolific recording career that included several classic albums for the Blue Note Record Label. Albums such as Capuchin Swing, It’s Time and his first album for the Blue Note label, New Soil, are three of Weeds’ favorite albums and much of the material will be drawn from these three records.
Tickets are $5.00; advanced registration is recommended – especially for big groups – and it is available online or by phone at 604 430 3337. Tickets are also available at the door.
Food will be available for purchase from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm, while a cash bar will be open for the entire duration of the event. The concert starts at 7:00 pm.
