- An Ecologically-Focused Mushroom Foray
October 15, 2017
1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Join us for this participatory, field-based workshop geared towards all levels of experience, covering:
- Core Skills for Mushroom Identification
- Mushroom Names and Meanings
- Fungal Ecology
- Culinary and Medicinal Applications
- Mushroom toxins
- Ethical Harvesting Practices
- Traditional & Contemporary Uses
- Cultivation and Mycoremediation Potential
Participants will come to understand the roles that fungi play in symbiosis, succession and regeneration. Please note that we will only be observing and not collecting mushrooms. Foray will be in North Vancouver from 1 to 5 PM. Exact location will be announced upon registration, but it will be about a 20 minute drive from Il Centro.
Foray leader Willoughby Arevalo has nearly 30 years of experience studying mushrooms and passionately shares his knowledge of them through various platforms, including the Vancouver Mycological Society.
No cash refunds are available for this workshop. With at least 72 hours notice, we would be happy to provide a credit to use towards other workshops and selected Il Centro initiatives (please inquire). If you give us less than 72 hours notice, we may be able to issue a credit if we can fill your seat from our waiting list, but there is no guarantee. No credit will be issued for no-shows: whether you are able to attend or not, the instructor still needs to be fairly compensated . All tickets are 100% transferable at any time – just provide your receipt to the person attending or let us know their name by phone or email.
