A musical chameleon, often playing in a variety of styles, Hip Pocket was formed 15 years ago and is led by multi-instrumentalist Adam Rohrlick (sax, electric guitar, keyboards). Hip Pocket has previously performed tributes to guitarists Pat Metheny and Grant Green, has appeared several times in the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and other popular events, and plays regularly in the various jazz clubs in town. For this performance, Hip Pocket will feature Adam Rohrlick (alto sax), Tilden Webb (keyboards), Andreas Schuld (electric guitar), Graham Clark (electric bass) and Joel Fountain (drums) and they will play a tribute to saxophonist David Sanborn, the most influential saxophonist for Pop, R&B and crossover players and pioneer of Smooth Jazz. Sanborn, winner of several important international awards, combined jazz sensibilities with blues inflections. If you’re a fan of old-school funky saxophone grooves, you’re not going to want to miss this show. This year, the series Jazz for Barb will be happening at Frankie’s Jazz Club (765 Beatty Street, Vancouver). Tickets are $16.
