Black Gardenia Featuring Daphne Roubini (vocals, ukulele), Andrew Smith (guitar), Paul Pigat (guitar), Chris Davis (trumpet) Steve Charles (bass). Daphne Roubini playfully named ”First Lady of Uke” sings and plays the ukulele in her band the Vancouver-based five-piece whose ‘London Jazz meets Americana’ sound has delighted festival and club audiences on two continents. With their unique, darkly-relaxed blend of vintage jazz, country, folk and blues from the 20′s, 30′s and 40′s, Black Gardenia take listeners on a journey to an age where cool meant classy and noir was the norm.
A buffet is available from 6:00pm until 7:00pm, while a cash bar will be open for the entire duration of the event. The concert starts at 7:00pm. Tickets are $35.00 for dinner and concert, and $15.00 just for the concert; advanced registration is recommended – especially for big groups – and it is available online or by phone at 604 430 3337. Limited tickets are also available at the door.
Barbara Fudge was a huge fan of jazz and was often seen all over the city at various jazz events. She passed away in Vancouver on November 27, 2014 after a brief bout with cancer. She is sorely missed and “Jazz for Barb” is a concert series in her honor featuring Vancouver musicians.
