In the centre of Verona, opera performances are given at the ancient Roman amphitheatre, the Verona Arena, which is capable of holding 30,000 spectators. Spectators sit on the stone seats and bring small candles (the “mocoleto”) which are lit as darkness falls and the performances begin. This concert will feature repertoire from this summer’s opera line-up at the famed Arena di Verona Festival. Operas presented in their 2018 Summer Season include Turandot (Puccini), Nabucco (Verdi), Aida (Verdi), Barber of Seville (Rossini), and Carmen (Bizet). This concert, free for the community to attend, is presented by the Italian Cultural Centre and City Opera Vancouver, and it will feature Martin Renner Wallace (tenor), Sarah Templeton (soprano), and Roger Parton (piano). Food and drinks will be available for purchase starting at 6:30pm, the concert will start at 7:00pm in Piazza Caboto (or in the Ballroom in case of rain).
